Backup Your Profiles Directory

Use the Backup and Restore functions found on the Startup Page Popup Menu "Data Recovery".

With Windows Explorer view, if it is accepted to backup the data, the complete Ideal Flight user data directory is shown. The Profiles directory contains only the profile data.

It is a good idea from time to time to backup the Ideal Flight user data folders complete, or at least the Profiles directory. If you install Ideal Flight fresh, then you can merge this backup with the corresponding new directory and continue with your scores.

Windows XP: see "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ideal Flight 10\Profiles"
Windows Vista and above: see "C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight 10\Profiles"

"Go Back" and Profile Backup Files

The "Go Back" popup menu item restores the profile to the previous flight. The Profile and Score files are automatically copied to the Backup directory whenever a completed flight is accepted for entry into the records. If these files are manually copied back into the Profile directory, the last flight is effectively removed. The corresponding Assessment file found in the Records directory can also be deleted, but care is required to choose the file with the most recent date stamp.

Windows XP: see "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ideal Flight 10\Profiles\0_ID\Backup"
Windows Vista and above: see "C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight 10\Profiles\0_ID\Backup"

Profile Default .ini Files

Edit the default files to make changes that affect all new profiles.

Boats.ini: Contains the default list of boats to include for sea searches and boat landings. Each line contains an FSX "SimObjects\Boats" name, a description, and the fraction of full speed to be travelling initially.

Metars.ini: Set up a list of METAR strings for the weather system to use at each interval. See Weather.

Windows XP: see "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ideal Flight 10\Profiles\Metars.ini"
Windows Vista and above: see "C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight 10\Profiles\Metars.ini"

Profile .ini Files

Copy and Edit the default files to make versions for a particular Profile.

The Profile ID and an Underscore character, e.g. "0_", are appended to the front of the file and placed in the ID directory.

Windows XP: see "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ideal Flight 10\Profiles\0_ID\0_*.ini"
Windows Vista and above: see "C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight 10\Profiles\0_ID\0_*.ini"
